Elections 2016: Results in Kansas, Maine, Kentucky, Louisiana, and Nebraska

Super Tuesday's dust has barely settled, but it's already time for the next round of voting in the presidential nomination contests. Today, both parties will hold primaries inLouisiana and caucuses in Kansas. Republicans held caucuses in Maine andKentucky. And Democrats had caucuses in Nebraska.

On the Republican side, Ted Cruz has had a great night. He's won the two contests called so far, in Kansas and Maine. We're currently still waiting to see whether he can match that performance in Kentucky and Louisiana.

As for the Democratic contest, Bernie Sanders continued his pattern of winning in states with very white Democratic electorates (he won Kansas and Nebraska), while losing badly in states with many nonwhite voters (he lost Louisiana to Clinton in a landslide). This means that he'll still face trouble closing the delegate gap against Clinton going forward.

Kansas caucuses

Who's voting? Both Republicans and Democrats (separately).

Republican results: Ted Cruz has won a decisive victory. With 100 percent of the votes counted, Cruz had 48 percent of the statewide vote. Donald Trump is in second with 23 percent, Marco Rubio is in third with 17 percent, and John Kasich is far back with 11 percent.

Democratic results: Bernie Sanders won in a landslide, with 68 percent of the vote compared to Hillary Clinton's 32 percent.

Kentucky caucuses

Who's voting? Just Republicans.

Republican results: Donald Trump has been called the winner. With about three-quarters of the votes tallied, Trump had 35 percent, Cruz had 31 percent, Rubio 17 percent, and Kasich 15 percent.

Maine caucuses

Who's voting? Just Republicans. (Democrats caucus tomorrow.)

Republican results: Ted Cruz won first place with about 46 percent of the vote, Donald Trump came in second with 33 percent, John Kasich came in third with 12 percent, and Marco Rubio came in a disappointing fourth with just 8 percent.

Nebraska caucuses

Who's voting? Just Democrats. (Republicans will vote in a primary on May 10.)

Democratic results: Bernie Sanders won a solid victory. With about four-fifths of the vote counted, Sanders had 55 percent compared to Clinton's 45 percent.

Louisiana primaries

Who's voting? Both Republicans and Democrats.

Democratic results: Hillary Clinton won in a landslide. With about 90 percent of the vote counted, she had 70 percent compared to Sanders's 24 percent.

Republican results: Trump has won, but narrowly — with 90 percent of the vote in, he had 42 percent compared to Ted Cruz's 38 percent. Marco Rubio and John Kasich were far back with just 11 percent and 6 percent, respectively
